HR Director

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Director manages the Human Resources function for the entire organization, with locations in multiple district offices employing approximately 300 employees.

The position manages the Human Resources Department staff and provides a full range of Human Resources essential functions: benefits administration, compensation, training and development, HR information systems administration, talent acquisition, and workforce development. The position reports to the COO and is engaged in all aspects of the operation as they relate to human capital needs.  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a leadership team member, ensuring human capital needs and company needs are met.
  • Develop strategies that align with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance will all current prevailing regulations.
  • Serve as a resource for employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering benefits, and helping resolve work-related problems.
  • Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Plan and administer policies relating to all phases of Human Resources operations.
  • Advise managers on organizational matters such as equal employment opportunity, sexual harassment, and recommend needed changes and resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Perform difficult staffing duties, including helping with staffing needs/recruitment, handling disputes, and administering disciplinary procedures.
  • Assist with planning and conducting new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives.
  • Act as a business partner and primary point of contact for managers for daily questions that arise.
  • Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain Human Resources budget.
  • Resolve problems and implement change.
  • Administer programs and negotiate cost-effective benefits programs such as life, health, dental, vision and disability insurances, vacation, sick leave, leave of absences, and employee assistance.
  • Comply with federal immigration requirements regarding employee work visas.
  • Lead accident investigations and prepare reports for Workers' Compensation insurance carrier.
  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation, including exit interviews.
  • Manage Affirmative Action (AA) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) programs.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. 

Essential Skills and Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS required) from a four-year college or university. (Prefer management or other business/HR degree)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience; 2 years in a management role.
  • Multi-State operation management.
  • Hands-on responsibility for the full scope of human resources activities, in both operations and analysis. 
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or issues.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, when dealing with brokers and preferred vendors.
  • High ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion, in a timely matter meeting/exceeding deadline.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Possess a self-starting attitude, bringing innovative ideas to strategic initiatives and a proactive approach to the department.
