Performs a variety of professional duties of a technical and often complex nature, including developing and presenting seminars, developing technical content for ICC codes support publications, performing review of technical content developed by others, monitoring the quality of publications and training content as needed, representing ICC in various professional associations, committees, conferences or other activities as needed and as assigned.  

Works with administrative, marketing, editorial, publishing, training and technical staff within Education, Product Development and other ICC departments to accomplish the departmental and companywide goals and objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Developing technical content and authoring technical support publications and training materials for I-Codes/Standards with a focus on the IBC and IRC
  • Developing and presenting seminars onsite and online including necessary travel
  • Reviewing technical content developed by others
  • Working with Publications staff and partner publishers to ensure the accuracy of published technical materials
  • Making presentations to professional, governmental and community groups on subjects relating to ICC Codes/Standards and technical subjects of the codes
  • Meeting assigned benchmarks and deadlines throughout project
  • Representing ICC at meetings and conferences
  • Serving on internal and external committees as assigned
  • Serving as a technical resource for other ICC departments, members and customers
  • Performing other technical and administrative duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction science
  • ICC Certification in one or more ICC codes is preferred, but not required  
  • Minimum 5 years of professional and technical experience in a building safety department, related professional association, or building design or construction company
  • Ability to demonstrate sound working knowledge and understanding of construction codes and their application
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and customer service skills
  • Strong skills in making effective presentations
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with very limited to no supervision   
  • Ability to travel locally, nationally and internationally as needed
  • Strong team player
  • Strong technical knowledge of the International Building Code and International Residential Code is required. Technical knowledge of one or more other ICC codes such as the International Fire Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code and International Existing Building Code is preferred, but not required.
